The rules were the most important and the hardest to nail during the design phase. We did user tests every week while the project was still in the design phase.
It was important for me that the user understood the benefit, the game mechanics, and got a feel for the game before they started to play.

In the game, memes are pit against each other and users choose which meme makes them laugh the most by casting their vote left or right.
The last meme standing was the winner that day. The user would also have to submit a meme based on a daily prompt in order to play so their voting would give them more opportunities to stay in the game.

The game feel was incredibly important to me so I spent time building a high quality vertical slice of just the voting mechanic. In the prototype, phone vibrates at certain points when votes are casted or when the voting puck sticks to a card.
Let me know if you want the origami file.

I worked through many different visual directions for the game. I'm still partial to the colors of a beach.
